Hidden Spillway

The Brandywine Valley in Pennsylvania is quiet and peaceful, very rural, and looks much the way it did a 100 years ago.  We were walking through the woods that grew along the creek that fed a very old grist mill.  I caught a flash of sunlight and decided to take the path that led down a ravine and found this beautiful stone spillway.  It stretched across the creek creating a small pond in back of the dam where the colorful fall trees reflected in the water.  I knew when I saw this little scene that one day I would paint it and now I have.  I may even do it again, only much larger.
